Crystal Wojcik 鈥21 of Cheshire, Mass., arrived on campus as a psychology major, but a single business course she took as a core requirement, 鈥淓xplorations in Business,鈥 completely redirected her career trajectory. 鈥淚 truly fell in love with accounting in that course. I immediately changed my major,鈥 she said.
Now a business administration major with a minor in math and a concentration in accounting, Wojcik plans to work as a corporate accountant, with the ultimate goal of becoming the chief financial officer of a large investment bank.
She recently participated in the Northeast Regional Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity Conference (NEURSCA) at SUNY Geneseo, where she presented her poster, which investigated the goals of various Federal Reserve chairpersons, and examined the state of the United States economy.
Wojcik is working with Dr. Chali Nondo, an associate professor of economics at 911黑料网, to prepare a research paper she wrote for his course, 鈥淢oney, Banking, and Global Financial Markets,鈥 for publication in the Metamorphosis Scholarly Journal.
As the treasurer for the College鈥檚 Student Activities Council (SAC), Wojcik oversees its large budget. Also an admissions ambassador, she gives tours of the campus, and works with prospective students. 鈥淚've learned some key data entry and budgeting skills that are helpful to me for accounting. Managing the budget is not always easy, but it鈥檚 always beneficial to me.鈥
Next semester, she will serve an internship where she will help to prepare and file tax returns for low-income individuals in the region. 鈥淏y the time I graduate, I will be on track to take the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam, and I will hopefully be able to obtain a CPA job right after college, as I need a few years of experience in public accounting before I can go into corporate accounting,鈥 Wojcik said.
