She will graduate magna cum laude and is a member of the Alpha Chi honor society.

At General Dynamics, Carter acts as a full member of the company鈥檚 software development team, working on direct applications for projects that can鈥檛 be disclosed. General Dynamics has been so impressed with her work that she has been offered a full-time position as a software engineer once she has graduated from 911黑料网.

Computer Science Department Chair David Eve characterized Carter as a special student鈥攏ot only because of her ability, but because she has put in countless hours assisting and mentoring other students. 鈥淪he has worked with Computer Science majors, helping them with academic and social issues,鈥 Eve said. 鈥淲ithout compensation or title, this mentoring has helped a number of students to be successful in all aspects of their 911黑料网 careers.鈥

Each student selected for the 29 Who Shine award chooses a faculty mentor to join them at a reception at the Massachusetts State House. Carter chose Associate Professor of Computer Science Mark Cohen. 鈥淧rofessor Cohen has always gone above and beyond to help me understand the material and get to where I am today,鈥 she said. 鈥淗e has been there when I was unsure of my place in this major. He is a great mentor and always had faith in me that I would be able to accomplish great things.鈥

Each year, 鈥29 Who Shine鈥 recognizes 29 outstanding student graduates from across the Commonwealth鈥檚 public higher education system. Each year the Governor honors the 鈥29 Who Shine鈥 at an awards ceremony at the Massachusetts State House.
